Umesh Lowe (PhD Researcher) - Travel Behaviour, Transport policy

Umesh Lowe is pursuing a PhD at the School of Civil Engineering, University College Dublin. His research background and interests include sustainable mobility, travel behavior, transport policy and choice modelling as well.

Umesh’s PhD research project primarily focuses on travel behavior change for short, first and last mile trips, particularly identifying psychological strategies that can be used to encourage private car users to replace their short distance trips by sustainable modes of transportation.

Transformative change in the transport sector is necessary to reverse current patterns of behavior that exist in Ireland in order to meet the country’s greenhouse gas reduction targets. Therefore outcomes will be useful both for transport service providers as well as local authorities, to implement and regulate services and promote more sustainable mobility in Ireland.
